Why Are(n’t) We Frightened?

And why are we frightened by her motionless skeleton when we see it lying in the cemetery but not afraid now when we see her zombie-like body moving about like a walking corpse controlled by momentary impulses?

I like this quote about apathy because it’s a question I unwittingly ask in Cross My Heart: Strange Adventures in Vancouver. It also feels like an area where I could perhaps “punch things up” in my next edit of the story.
