Choose Your Own Character

As this new chapter, a new year, begins I'm considering the story I am writing, and whether the character I'm currently playing is fully embodying who I want to be in the story of my life, now and in the future. Do you know what an archetype is? Archetypes are...

Rights I Sometimes Feel Wrong About

Wrong

A list of things that I am learning to not feel wrong about… as they are my right, as an individual:

  1. My right to chose when and how I interact with people.
  2. My right to chose what motivates me.
  3. My right to care… or not.

The End of My Superficial Relationship

Committed

For decades I’ve been in a casual relationship with you. I wasn’t ready to commit to you fully.

Today, I am not feeling so balanced, and my commitment to you, as usual, wants to falter. And yet I am here.

This is what we’ve been working towards. A space where I feel trust and commitment in my relationship with you, my writing.

It’s taken a slow build-up to get here, our relationship has been like learning to speak, and learning to love, a language. A little bit of practice each day and eventually I’ve found myself feeling more natural with you.

Getting a Grip on Reality

I’m in my head a lot

[tweetmeme]I can be pretty nasty to Me. I have some pretty insane expectations of Me and I rip myself apart when I feel I don’t perform to the standards I set.

A shift in perspective does Me good

My bubble needs to be burst. Frequently and often. I need to get outside my head and my little world and the silly little things I tell my Self.

Gen Y Gives Thanks: Challenging the Norm

[tweetmeme]

I’m representing the grateful members of Gen Y on Examiner.com

Sharalyn Hartwell of Generation Y Examiner is attempting to prove that Generations Y isn’t a pack of selfish fools with her series, Gen Y Gives Thanks. Sharalyn interviewed me about what I am thankful for and you can read the article in it’s entirety here. For the lazier of us in the crowd, here’s my favourite excerpt of what I said… Damn, that sounds egotistical. Maybe they’re right about me and my entire Generation;)

I am grateful that a change in consciousness is occurring in society, that the accepted rules of business and life are being challenged and that new ways of thinking are being embraced and cultivated. I smile each time I see someone casting aside the chains of our society’s ‘shoulds’ to explore what they intuitively feel is right.” Read the rest here!

The Distorted Lens of Familiarity

Life Through a Lens

[tweetmeme] It sounds stupid, but I am often amazed that people don’t know what I do. I see the world through my lens, focused on my passions, and in my little world, I’m no more interested in a given topic than anyone else.

I don’t know what I know

In my distorted world, I know no more about the web, marketing, communications and culture than anyone else. To suggest that I am an expert seems silly, as the more I dig, the more I feel I have so much more to learn.

It’s My Birthday Today!

by Paco CT[tweetmeme]

I’m 28! Woo hoo!

I’m writing this post late today as I spent the day with my family, eating and laughing. I’m off to dinner with my hubby in a few minutes too. My birthday is a day that I always treat myself on. Even when I worked for others, I took my birthday off and made it a priority to fill the day with all the things and people I love. I do hope that you do the same for yourself on your special day. You deserve it.

I’m a Glutton for Experience

slowly and alone

[tweetmeme]

I’m in Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain for the next week, capitalizing on the business trip (aka enjoying the free hotel) my husband has been sent on. I’ve brought my computer, and before I left, I told myself I would work… because I feel guilty. Guilty for spending money I don’t have, guilty for the time away from my clients and business and guilty for taking a trip I feel I don’t deserve.

Despite the self-inflicted guilt, I could not help but seize the opportunity for adventure.

The Toronto Meetup Is Exactly What I Need

Rainy Toronto
[tweetmeme]

This Past Monday

It was a rainy night in a slightly pretentious Italian restaurant in downtown Toronto where mid-level suits go to wine and dine. I’m standing at the bar, expecting two confirmed attendees and wondering what I was thinking when I picked the place. The first person to arrive is Nathalie Lussier, the Raw Food Witch. We stand, waiting and start chat about where we live and what our passions are. She’s a black belt and a computer geek. She’s f’ing cool to me. It’s a natural connection.

My Utopia Exists. You’re Surfing It Right Now.

I Need You photp by: Icloss

[tweetmeme]Does this sound like your ideal community? It’s pretty damn close to mine.

1. Constantly growing organically

The web consists of millions of pages, and it grows by the moment. A page can be added by anyone, anywhere. Hyperlinks are what connects these millions of pages and they can be created by anyone, anywhere. The web is constantly growing and interconnecting as the many small pieces (pages) are joining together (via hyperlinks) as they see fit.

2. Decentralized

No one is in charge of the web. There is no one to fix it and no one to thank for it.

3. Commitment-free

You have complete control over the time you spend on the web. You can move at your own pace and explore what you want, when you want.

What Being an Innerpreneur Means to Me (And Only Me)

InnerpreneurWord

[tweetmeme] I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again, I did not make the word Innerpreneur up. I was only drawn to it once upon a time ago (early 2007) when I was starting my business.

I saw the book Karma Queens, Geek Gods and Innerpreneurs in the bookstore and despite the fact that I had little interest in the book’s overall themes, I bought it. I was compelled by the term, Innerpreneur, and intrigued by the people it described.

It spoke to me. I connected with it. I didn’t totally understand what being an Innerpreneur meant but I found truth in it.
