I created a Twitter background design that I would like to share. The design allows you to brand yourself in two extra locations – the top banner and left side banner – of your Twitter screen. It’s a more effective way to promote yourself and your business on Twitter.

If you like it, feel free to download and use it. I created the file in Adobe Photoshop 3.

How to add the background design to your Twitter page

  1. Once you have customized the design, save it to your computer as a smaller than 800k GIF, JPG, or PNG file.
  2. Go to your Twitter page, e.g., http://twitter.com/ElasticMind.
  3. In the top right of your Twitter page is a menu. Select ‘Settings’.
  4. Another menu will appear in the centre of your page, select the tab ‘Design’ from the menu items.
  5. Select ‘Change Background Image’.
  6. ‘Browse’ your computer’s hard drive for your Twitter background design file.
  7. Ensure your design appears the display box below ‘Browse’, if it does select ’save changes’.
  8. That’s it, you’re done! When you visit your Twitter page, the new background design should display.

wow, this is really cool! unfortunately, i am a photoshop neophyte and can not seem to figure out how to change out the stock profile picture to one of my own. can anyone help?! thanks in advance for the help...and for sharing this!
  • Hi Mike,

You should be able to just place your image over the current one. Or
unselect the eye beside the stock picture (on the right side of the
    screen) and it will disappear.

If that doesn't help, Adobe has lots of great tutorials on using
    Photoshop.

    You can!
  • I'm always interested in learning how to use applications more effectively,
so this is very nice. Any chance you could save the file out for Photoshop CS2?
  • Hi Rick,

I'm glad you found the template helpful. I believe the version I have
now uploaded should be compatible with CS2. Please let me know if it
isn't. I wasn't exactly sure how to save down properly.

  • Looks great, but you should test with IE6/7 and a non-widescreen monitor. Because twitter.com's main content body isn't absolutely positioned, the layout may be covered.
  • Jeremy,

Thank you for taking the time to provide me with feedback. I will fix the current version immediately.

    I appreciate your help,

    Tara
