Why war is not a system?

My hint:

Because it is a state, a temporary state of a system: a state of conflict, of exacerbated disharmony, characterized by lack of cooperation and lack of coherence between subsystems/countries within a (global) system.

Boltzmann showed us that matter tends to change irreversibly towards states of equilibrium, which are the most probable states.

A state of equilibrium is a state of coherence, of common purpose, of cooperation. It is a more probable state - as opposed to a state of war which is temporary.

We can learn about this, for example, by looking at how the cells in our bodies work. When they work/function together they serve the common goal - the welfare of the body. This this is a state of coherence, equilibrium, homeostasis.

At the other extreme, cancer cells can be seen as forming a "selfish" subsystem working only for itself, in conflict with the body, at the expense of the body/system.

We can think in the same terms with regards to the current financial crisis, too: financial companies/subsystems that have worked selfishly against the system, like cancer cells, in conflict with the common goals/interests of the other subsystems and of the larger system, endangering the other subsystems and the greater systems.

As with the war, this too is a temporary state, as matter and the universe tend towards equilibrium, coherence, unity and cooperation - the more probable and more healthy states, which correspond to growth.

Thanks, Mike. Great thoughts to help innerpreneurs understand the
value and importance of systems thinking.
