Connect, Then Sell

How can you sell to someone you don’t even know? How do you know you can help or add value to their lives when you don’t even know their problem?

Get to know your prospective client before you tell them what they need. Build a connection, understand their challenges, show that you respect them as an individual. No one appreciates being treated like a walking $ sign.

Good point. Do you want just a transaction or a relationship? I think we both know which lasts longer and is more profitable.

Because customers are more empowered, business will need to do more listen-marketing.

Great point, Tim. At least for me, when someone tries to sell to me
without ever bothering to understand me, I immediately shut down and
stop listening. I perceive them as having their interests (usually
money, money, money!) in mind, rather than mine. Products and services
are only useful and sustainable if they create value for the user —
and you can't possibly know that your service/product is valuable to a
person until you understand their challenges.
