The web is marketing.

We are marketing ourselves each times we click publish.
We are putting our brand, ourselves, on a mass medium.

It sounds like a scary thought but it isn’t.
Be yourself. It’s your key to the web.

  • Great advice Tara. Being yourself is the best you can do for yourself and for others. People want to get to know you, not someone you're pretending to be.

And I agree, it's scary! Especially with the reach of the web. But you're right, it's the key.
  • It's funny, I think sometimes people forget how far reaching the web is and that anything you say or do on it is not private. We really are creating a brand for our self each time we hit publish, post or submit. It truly is a mass medium unlike any we have seen before. What awesome power it has.
  • I agree with this post. Being yourself is the key! Out of all the people I follow on twitter, I remembered you as you said you were an introvert (along with a lot of other great things). That stuck with me 'cause I could relate. Now I follow your blog posts and read every one. If you'd been trying to be like everyone else, you wouldn't have stuck out. Thanks!
  • Kara,

Thank you for the kind words and support. I think it is such an important message for people to hear, that on the web, the most effective way to promote yourself is to simply be yourself. Unlike the mass media of the past (tv, newspapers, magazines, etc.), the web allows you to connect with the tiniest and most specific of niches providing us with a previously unheard of ability to find our true tribe.

Thank you so much for reading...and relating,

    Tara
